General Questions
What size electric garage heater do I need?
Garage heater sizes are typically quantified in BTU or British Thermal Unit, the universal measurement unit for how much heat a heat-generating appliance produces.
When choosing a garage heater size, consider climate, insulation, the size of the space, and your temperature preference. Small details like the ceiling height and voltages can also affect your choice.  Â
Talk to our Customer Service team for guidance on which AlorairGarage heater is best suited to your space.
Is a hydronic heater cheaper than other types of heaters?
Hydronic heaters are relatively cheaper than electric space heaters. Unlike electric space heaters that use electricity to generate heat.
The heating elements in non-hydronic electric heaters constantly consume electricity to generate enough heat to warm up an entire garage or room. Hydronic unit heaters, on the other hand, harness the heat energy from existing boilers. They only need electricity to power up heat exchangersÂ
How long do hydronic heating systems last?
With proper care and timely maintenance, hydronic heaters can have a life expectancy of 15-20 years.Â
Where should I mount my hydronic unit heater for garage?
The best location to install a hydronic garage heater is the coldest spot or wherever cold air enters first (usually the entryways, windows, and vents). If there’s no structural beam on the ceiling above that area, mount the heater at the nearest possible place and adjust the louvers to point towards the cold spot.Â
Can I install a hydronic garage heater by myself?
AlorairGarage needs to be hooked up to an existing boiler system. It also needs a dedicated circuit breaker and must be grounded. As such, we recommend hiring a licensed electrician or qualified technician to install the hydronic garage heater.
Is a hydronic heater safe?
Electric garage heaters are considered safe for enclosed garages because they don’t produce emissions (specifically carbon by-products), unlike combustion heating. Therefore, the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning is low when you use an electric garage heater. But there’s still a risk of electrical fire, as with any household appliance that runs on electricity. We recommend taking basic precautions with the AlorairGarage (i.e., keep away from water, fire, and combustible materials).Â
